TheRockGroup in conversation with Mother Nature. Our annual statement 2023.
During our Team Day in September, we shared our annual statement 2023: TheRockGroup in conversation with Mother Nature.
TheRockGroup. Over the last year, we have seen changes in the team. A lot of knowledge has been conducted and shared, both internally and externally. Taking sustainability to the next level.
Personally, we are constantly looking critically at what role we can play. Varying from bridging to supporting, guiding and teaching all the way to being an activist. We have the possibility to be ourselves and discover what role we want to take, to drive the same mission.
Nature. Over the last year, my boundaries were researched and acknowledged. My internal processes are struggling and the cycle of life is heavily disrupted.
While on some days I am desperate, it warms (not in a climate change way) me to see people putting in more and more effort every day to keep us (all life) driving. I need more than patching up, I need a new system, doing a bit better is far from enough.
TheRockGroup. We do grasp this, and we aim to have an impact, but we also feel small often.
Nature. This year particularly has been my time to behave like a rebel, an activist. The consequences of climate change were hectic and explosive.
TheRockGroup. We see that societal movements and activism grow and within our sustainability agency, it has become a serious topic. We discuss the need for consulting activism and heavy reflection on what we do and how.
Nature. Just realise that climate change has always been a constant factor for me, however, never has this been caused by humans and never have I seen this pace either. The systems you believe in are only a few hundred years old and your biggest problems are sometimes not even 100 years old (like plastics and fast fashion, waste and pollution). You think that the last 300 years are progress and civilisation, but what do you see when you look back in time and into the future?
TheRockGroup. We have seen a surge in demand for services related to education and awareness, empowering individuals and organizations to understand and combat social and environmental challenges that we as humans have created. Promoting circularity and ethical, sustainable business practice at your core – can be a step to system change. Willingness arises when we are able to change our perspective on our relationship with nature. Once we don’t consider ‘we are ruling the world’, ‘owning nature as a resource’, and leaving our stewardship role behind, we can be part of nature. And if that happens, all will change. Cause now we are one. We strive to live in harmony with all lives around us.
We have embraced diversity by finding people of all backgrounds across the globe to create and work in a diverse team in different locations on global matters. Our knowledge, experience, perspectives and geographical location make us move as an agile team, resilient and pragmatic in composition to serve our clients in the best possible way. Besides that, we are future-ready. Not only because we dare to think progressively and out of the box, but also because we help drive the changes necessary for a sustainable future.
Nature. In the year to come, I hope you focus on the interconnectedness of all life. Understanding that humans are part of the natural world. Ensure your activities build on traditional knowledge, and acknowledge the wisdom of our common ancestors, the cycle of life, and the dreams of generations yet to unfold. Help other organizations and humans to make this switch, accept their role within ecological systems, and make that business as usual.
TheRockGroup. Our promise for the approaching year is to offer a seat on the table of conversations and projects for nature, the future generation and our ancestors. We promise to create space to redevelop our connection to nature in every business opportunity.
Together, we will expand our global impact with a bigger team of people, partners and more projects based on all the knowledge, experience and work done and the impact made. Time to build, amplify, copy, and scale our focus areas and key themes while being agile and open-minded. Striving for a thriving world.
