Elfrieke van Galen, partner at TheRockGroup, has worked with VTW to give a masters course in sustainability to the VTW members. Also, she was a member of the VTW sustainability workgroup that created a manual for TVW in the area of sustainability. During her interview with VTW, entitled ‘Er komt veel meer op sector af dan label B’, Elfrieke discussed sustainability, climate goals and different ways to achieve them.
According to the climate agreements the goal is to reduce 49% of carbon emissions in 2030 compared to 1990 levels. In order to do this there must be changes in the way we operate businesses. Currently in construction and housing an energy label B is generally seen as doing your part for sustainability and climate goals. Elfrieke believes that businesses can achieve much more than just an energy label and that supervisory positions are key players to achieving this. According to her there are many roads that reach the same goals however commissioners, supervisory boards and CEOs must be made aware of this. This means that you must engage the director with the ambitions of the corporation, have a road map and make sure they have a basic knowledge of sustainability.
